Derek is originally from Muncie, Indiana and has been involved with leading worship for more than 20 years. After leading worship with Cru campus ministries at Ball State University, he became the Creative Arts Director at a local church, where he served for 10 years.

Derek and his wife Sara were married in 2019 and immediately moved to Denver. Derek works at Children’s Hospital Colorado, and the Youngs live in Park Hill with their daughter Joey, who was born in 2023. When he isn’t playing music, Derek loves being at the gym or out on a hike.
